death of Trooper Andrew J Sperr, assigned to Troop E, SP Horseheads,

New York.

Trooper Sperr was killed early this afternoon in a shootout with bank robbery suspects near the intersection of Lowe Rd and Kahler Rd in Big Flats, N.Y.

Trooper Sperr was a dedicated 10 year veteran of the New York State Police. He is survived by his parents Jean and Andrew Sperr of Rochester and 10 brothers and sisters.

Funeral Arrangements are incomplete at this time and further information will be forthcoming as soon as it is available.

It is with deep regret and heartfelt sadness that I must announce the line of duty death of Trooper Andrew J. Sperr, assigned to Troop "E," SP Horseheads, New York. Trooper Sperr was killed on March 1, 2006, during a shootout with at least two subjects who had just robbed a nearby bank. Despite being mortally wounded, Trooper Sperr returned fire, seriously injuring two bank robbery perpetrators. Trooper Sperr was a dedicated 10-year veteran of The New York State Police. He is survived by his parents, Jean and Andrew Sperr, five brothers and five sisters.

Funeral and Calling Hours Arrangements:

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2006, from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. and Sunday, March 5, 2006, from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the Bartolomeo and Perotto Funeral Home, 1411 Vintage Lane, Rochester, New York 14626.

The funeral will be held on Monday, March 6, 2006, at 11:00 A.M. at the Saint Lawrence Church, 1000 N. Greece Road, Rochester, New York 14626. Law enforcement agency representatives should report to the staging area near Saint Lawrence Church no later than 9:30 A.M. on March 6, 2006.

There will be no graveside service or public interment.

All law enforcement agencies that anticipate sending a detail are respectfully requested to contact the State Police at SP Canandaigua at (585) 398-3200, or by teletype EQHT ORI/NY1340100, and provide the number of personnel expected to attend the funeral mass. Law enforcement personnel are requested to attend in their department's class “A” uniform.

Trooper Sperr's family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "Jackie Bushman's Life Hunt," 10540 Daystar Drive, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 35405, or to a charity of your choice.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Marriott Hotel, 1890 Ridge Road West, Rochester, New York, 14615 for any attendees who require overnight lodging. The Marriott Hotel can be reached at (585) 225- 6880. The cost per room is $81 per night.

Directions:

Bartolomeo and Perotto Funeral Home - from NYS Thruway Exit 46, take Interstate 390 North to exit 25 (Vintage Lane). Make a left hand turn onto Vintage Lane. Bartolomeo and Perotto Funeral Home will be approximately 1 and 1/2 miles from Interstate 390 on the left side of the roadway.

Staging area/funeral:

Saint Lawrence Church - from NYS Thruway Exit 46, take Interstate 390 north to exit 25 (Vintage Lane), exit at Vintage and turn left on Vintage Lane. Go past the funeral home, go across Long Pond Road (Vintage becomes Mill Road west of Long Pond), cross North Avenue, and turn left on

North Greece Road (approximately two miles west of the funeral home/Long Pond Road). The church will be approximately 1/4 to 1/2 mile on the left.
