New report from the US Fire Administration: Structure Fire Response Times

Submitted 02/27/2006

The United States Fire Administration released the Structure Fire Response Times report from the National Fire Data Center. The study is based on data from 2001 and 2002 and examines general trends as well as regional, season, and time of day trends.

The report concludes that structure fire response times are generally less than 5 minutes;** that the nationwide response time is less than 11 minutes; that structure fires in the Northeast have the lowest response times while those in the West have the highest; and that average structure fire response times show a relationship between flame spread and longer response times, but only after flames have spread beyond the room of origin.

**Regardless of size of department, career or volunteer status
