Just curious about the history of this Dept./company....were they an off spring of a surrounding Dept. that separated years back...they must have automatic mutual aide on structure fires....I don't know if I have ever heard them dispatched who do they run with....thanks again.

They run dual response with Pocantico Hills FD. They are dispatched by 60 control

from what it looks like, maybe Archville was once with Briarcliff? Just guessing because they have the same color rigs :White. ?

Archville fire itself dates back to about 1909. Around 1929 they merged their fire district with the Village of Briarcliff to provide coverage to the west side of Briarcliff. This arrangement lasted until the fall of 1971 when because of a disagreement with the Village of Briarcliff over water rates and because of a decision from the state over a fire district being part of a municipal department.

Starting in 1972 Archville operated again on their own as the company for the Scarborough fire district which they were always part of.

Their current firehouse was constructed in the mid 60's and after the split with briarcliff they continued to operate their 1966 Hahn. When Ossining replaced their Engine 98 in 1973 they purchased their old Engine to act as a backup.

They operate with Pocantico Hills on duel responses and their EMS for the most part is provided by BMFD ambulance and the Mt. Pleasant Medic.

When Archville split with Briarcliff, a handful of Archville's firefighters who resided in Briarcliff's Scarborough area formed the Scarborough Engine Company and oversaw the building of the Scarborough Fire House and procurement of new apparatus.

The Scarborough and Archville companies had a pretty strong kinship in the 70's and 80's. There are still some overlapping member histories with Scarborough, Archville and Pocantico Hills that newer members would be unfamiliar with.

Archville was known to have the fastest hand pumper at the annual Fairchester

Hose Haulers Antique Muster in Kensico and often Scarborough members participated with Archville at the competition.

It was never the same muster after leaving Kensico.

Whats your district's size. People have told me 1 square mile, just wondering if thats true or not. Also, how many residents live in your responce area?

From what i heard Archville gets about 80 calls a year. Mostly Car accidents because they cover a stretch of RT.9. They do dual response with Pocantico Hills. I believe they do cover 1 square mile.

Nothin against them....but it seems a little ridiculous to have a completely different fire company and district that covers a grand total of 1 square mile, maybe someone can explain the reasoning behind this?

The Village of Elmsford is only 1 square mile also....Thats the whole problem with westchester. There are 53 depts....this is crazy...every little area wants it's own dept.

The Vilage of Elmsford is one square mile; however, the Elmsford Fire District is 4 square miles.

In 2005, the Elmsford Fire Dept. responded to 623 Fire Runs and 548 EMS Runs.
