Serves as a crew member protecting life and property. Responds to alarms and fights fire requiring the full performance of firefighting tasks of moderate difficulty involving structures, equipment, and facilities; crashed and burning aircraft; and fuel, chemical, and brush fires. Aircraft are small (i.e., 10 passengers), involve small amounts of fuel and have standard design features. Alternates in hose, ladder, hydrant, rescue, salvage, or hand line operations. Unreels and connects hose, lays hoselines, operates charged lines; places and raises ladders; operates portable and stationary Firefighting apparatus. Performs fire protection inspections in areas where no unusual fire hazards are expected and the potential severity is low. Inspects quarters, office buildings, barracks, hospitals, warehouses, etc., for fire hazards such as overloaded fuses, trash and rubbish accumulation, combustible material storage. Performs other duties as assigned.

(6) Employee must meet DoD Fire and Emergency Service minimum qualification standards and certification requirements prior to being selected. (7) Employee must have and maintain a valid state drivers license. (8) Employee must have a Class D drivers license. (9) Employee must have EMT Certification and CPR/First Aid Certification within the first 12 months and HAZMAT Awareness and HAZMAT Operations. (10) SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal Service is required. Specialized experience is experience which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) necessary to successfully perform the dutiies of the position and is typically in or related to the experience that demonstrated the particular knoweledge, skills and ability to perform successfully the duties of a Firefighter (EMT), which may include the ability to perform firefighting and inspection duties. (12) EDUCATION:Successful completion of 2 years of education above the high school level. (13) FOREIGN EDUCATION: Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency in order to be rated eligible for this position. (This element includes using equipment in a fire fighting situation.) KSA 2. Knowledge of First Responder duties. (This element includes rendering first aid to accident victims. KSA 3. Ability to receive and relay messages. (This element includes taking telephone, radio and in-person messages.) KSA 4. Knoweldge sufficient to perofrm fire prevention duties. (This element includes knoweldge of obvious fire hazards). KSA 5. Ability to address a group. (This element includes making an organized presentation). KSA 6. Knowledge sufficient to perform Hazardous Materials First Responder Operation. The experience described in your resume will be evaluated as related to the qualifications, knowledge, skills and abilities required for this job. One year of experience in the same or similar work equivalent to at least the next lower grade or level requiring application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position being filled. Other Information: May require overtime work, shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays and in other situations. This position is a temporary position and may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of two years. Other Requirements: A medical examination is required. License/Certification: Firefighter I & II certifications within the first 12months & HAZMAT Awareness.
