Veteran Richmond, Virginia Firefighter Dies on Way to Work

(January 6) -- Richmond Fire Chief Robert A. Creecy announced the death of veteran firefighter Jerry W. Hall.

Chief Creecy said Firefighter Hall faithfully served as a member of the Richmond Department of Fire and Emergency Services for over 35 years.

Firefighter Hall was on his way to work Friday when he experienced a medical emergency. Chesterfield Fire and EMS responded and he was transported to Chippenham Hospital where he died a short time later.

Jerry Wayne Hall was 62, he resided in Chesterfield. He was a native of Pulaski, Va.

Hall is survived by his wife, Diane Hayes Hall; son, Jeffrey Wayne Hall; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Lorraine and W. Stuart Spencer Jr.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert C. and Dottie Hall, L. Michael and Dinah Hall; niece, Mallory Hall. Mr. Hall, a firefighter with the City of Richmond for over 35 years, as well as a U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran and a member of Belmont United Methodist Church.

His family will receive friends from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). Funeral information later. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to Belmont UMC, 3510 Broad Rock Blvd. Richmond, Va. 23234 or the Richmond MDA 8000 Franklin Farms Dr. Suite 139, Richmond, Va. 23288

Firefighter Hall was on his way to work this morning when he experienced a medical emergency. Chesterfield Fire Department personnel responded and he was transported to Chippenham Hospital where he died a short time later. While funeral arrangements are forthcoming, the family has requested that all donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in lieu of flowers.

Well, jcolon, maybe this was a major typo by Firehouse.com..... I suppose they will have to apologize to their readers and FFting community for this embarrassment of classifying LODDs without any basis for it.... who knows, maybe when I see LODD on the article section/masthead I'm just hallucinating....

Either way, here's a thought: maybe you could provide facts supporting your statement ; if you can, I'll edit my post, if not, maybe you could make a memorial contribution in the man's name.....
