that is a pretty large fire, how long until it was under control?

Fire was initially reported at 15:07, structure was 10,500 sq.ft.

At 15:30, went to 4-11 alarm, I believe 16 engines, 10 trucks, 4 BCs, 145 FFs, District Chief and Dep.Comm.

At 15:50, rear 2 large chimneys collapsed onto electrical wires.

Don't know when it was declared U/C.....

Anyone notice that those guys still wear long coats and 3/4 boots? I'm surprised that I city that large hasn't gone to bunker pants yet. I know I know, I've heard a lot of arguments against bunker pants and they mab be correct, but I'm shocked the city and its insurers don't have a fit.

Spectacular fire, and some really nice photos. Thanks for the links.

It's neat to see how Chicago FD operates at such a large incident. They also have some really unique apparatus and techniques as well.

Why would they use long boots rather than bunkers...anyone know the reason or arguement for that?
