Bulldogs around the county

33 posts in this topic

Although there was a post not too far back about Mack Apparatus in the county, it touched on mostly rigs that used to be in service. AS for me, a Mack Truck buff, i wanted to formulate a list of ALL the Macks that are or used to be in service in the county...AC/B/CF/MC/MR/R/RD models, etc

Thank you for all your help-

Millwood ran two Macks. Most popular was the old E-245 which was a 1957 Mack B Model on a tandem axle. It was a 5 man fully enclosed cab with a 1000 gallon pump, 1500 gallon tank and one of the first (if not the first) prepiped foam proportioning systems. It was the first piece of fire apparatus I ever drove. Tanker 15 replaced it about 10 years ago. It is owned by a private citizen near Newburgh. It was hailed as a revolutionary piece of fire apparatus at the time.

The second was E-244 a 1944 Mack. This left the company just before I joined, but from all the pictures I've seen of it, I believe it was a L Model with a 750gpm pump and a 500 gallon tank.

I also now own a 1957 B Model from the department I was a member of in college. It is currently being restored.

Chappaqua Runs two late 70's or early '80's MC Model Macks (E-145 with the hose reel and R-23 which used to be a full pumper that had the pump and body removed, chassis restored and a Non Walk In rescue body installed) E-243 is their antique and I believe it's a 40's E model.

Briarcliff E-93 (if I remember correctly) is a MC pumper from the late 70's. I believe their antique is an early B model from the 30's or an E or L model. They had other Macks in the 50's 60's 70's too but I cant remember which.

Croton E-119 is a CF that is still in service (1984 I believe)

Mt. Kisco still has a CF in service as E-104 (1984 I believe)

I believe Vista and Banksville all have R model Mack tankers.

These are just a few off the top of my head.

Ossining Steamer Co. (E-98) Ran a 1973 0r 74 Mack CF. was replaced in 1996 with a E-One Cyclone

Tarrytown also ran 2 CF's Hope Hose (Eng. 79) ran a I believe 1979 or 1980 This got replaced by a 2001 E-One and Phenix Hose (Eng. 76) ran a 1976 CF, was replaced with a 96' E-One. Both E-one's are Cyclone Models.

Hastings ran a Mack CF out of Protection Eng. (Eng. 44), was replaced in 1991 by a Pierce, when replaced it was sent to Uniontown Hose as either a spare or 2nd rig not really sure. Recently replaced these past couple of years by there new Seagrave.

Mt. Kisco Mutual Eng.& Hose does run that 84' CF and they Also had another until it was replaced in 1993 or 1994 when they recieved there Pierce.

Not that it makes any diffrence but Engine 104 is a 1983 Mack CF.

The Mutuals also had a 1970 Mack CF that ran as Engine 103 before it was replaced by the 1993 Pierce.

That as well as 104 were great trucks.

One of those Yonkers reserves holds the distinction of being the last Mack CF engine produced.

God willing I ever win the lottery, I'm coming after that one and Croton's beauty, among others.

You are indeed correct - Yonkers Reserve Engine 317, (the former Engine 306), holds the honor of being the last Mack CF produced.

But that engine you call (306) was engine (314) befor it was 306. e-6 had that sutphen engine then the big trade so it was 314 before it was 306. A blast from the past in rig history.

To CPage - I may be wrong, but I believe that 306 never ran with a Sutphen. They always ran with a Mack up until they got their ALF Eagle. Yonkers received 2 Sutphens back in the 90's. Engine 303 had one of the 2 Sutphens, that then went over to Engine 311 who gave it up, which is now Reserve Engine 315. Engine 314, I believe, always had the other Sutphen from the time it arrived. I believe that Yonkers really never like the Sutphens to run down in West Yonkers, because the truck really did not hold up well.

The fact is there was 3 sutphens that went to 303, 306 and 311 - after a few months 306 was switched with the Mack that 314 had - ( The Last CF)

314 is still in service

303 is now reserve 305

and 311 is now the Foam Unit

To CPage - I stand corrected. 306 Did have one of the Original 3 Sutphens (303, 306, and 311). 303's ended up at 314, as you correctly stated. 303's ended up as Reserve 305, and 311's is now the FOAM UNIT out of Station 13. Thanks to YFD R1Smokeater, for the clarification.
