50 graduate from Westchester police academy

PURCHASE — County Public Safety Commissioner Thomas Belfiore congratulated 52 recruits from 12 local law enforcement agencies this afternoon during graduation ceremonies for the 120th class of the Westchester Police Academy.

Noting that the class "has received more training than ever before,'' Belfiore told the graduates that, in a post-Sept. 11th world where police officers are on the front line of homeland security, "you have chosen not to stand by and do nothing. We are counting on you to make a difference.''

The recruits started basic police training in all aspects of law enforcement in August and will now return to their local departments, where most will receive in-house and on-the-job training.
