Fire Truck Flips Responding To Westside Fire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A firefighter was hurt when the fire truck he was driving to a house fire on the Westside this morning overturned.

Terrence Eaton, 38, was taken to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center with bumps and bruises after the tanker truck flipped as he made the corner off Wilson Boulevard onto Lane Avenue.

No one else was on board the truck when it overturned, and it was the only vehicle involved in the accident. The $204,000 tanker was totaled. 

"He jumped out as quick as he could and he got out safe," said a school crossing guard who witnessed the accident. "He had angels watching over him."

Eaton is a seven-year veteran of the Jacksonville Fire-Rescue Division.

Police say the accident is under investigation.

WOW is he lucky. Did you see the damage done to the cab and the amount that it crumpled. I hope that the tanker in the last couple of shots wasn't their replacement rig, it looks like it has seen better days :-P

That's crazy!! Goes to show you how well a Freightliner cab holds up in a rollover MVA. Just another reason for custom apparatus.
