can anyone explain to me why this ladder has only one stablizer on the front bumper? i would think you need two to even it out but this rig has the 2 in the rear and 2 in the middle but only one up front. why is that?

This is how it was designed. The tower ladders built and delivered in 1994, 95 and 96 all had the single jack up front. The first few were delivered with straight bumpers and had them modified to the angular design you see in that picture. This was the reaction after quite a few bumper clippings trying to pull in and out of various firehouses. They were extremely unpopular with the rank and file members and in 1997 the department went back to the classic twin jack set up.

BTW, this rig rolled over this past summer, so the collectible you see here may be worth quite a pretty penny and sell out quick. Also you may want to give credit to LAFirePhotos and Code 3 for the picture.

Get your pics of this rig now. Like JBE said it was rolled this summer and is set for disposal. Ladder 106 was also involved in an accident this summer, but I think she will be repaired.

Ona lighter note, thank god there are only a few of these FWD TL's left. They were/are HORRIBLE!!!!

Why is that?

My personal opinion. I drove one when they had the wide front bumper, and lets just say she was tight maneuvering around some tight spots. I'll save some of the story in order to protect my identity!!! ;)
