Annual Place of Work: Directorate of Public Safety, Fire and Emergency Services Division, Fort Dix, NJ Position Status: This is a Permanent position. -- Full Time Number of Vacancy: 1 Click on links for more informationDuties: Serves as a fully trained member of a fire fighting crew, on Fort Dix having 1,500 structures on approximately 31,000 acres, engaged in the protection of life and property. Responds to alarms and combats fires and emergencies requiring the full performance of firefighting and emergency tasks involving structures, equipment, facilities, hazardous waste and chemical operations/storage, and natural cover wildfires at extensive range and training areas used for live firing of weapons (ranging from pistols to high explosive rockets and artillery shells) during training of soldier. Fire suppression and rescue activities range from, but not limited to, the common sparking electrical outlet, high rise firefighting in a nine (9) story hospital, armored vehicles with ammunition on board, hazardous material incidents, confined space and high angle rescues to heavy rescue vehicle extrication. REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: Firefighter I and II, HAZMAT Operations, valid states drivers license. You must provide a copy of these certificates with your resume. IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE: TO QUALIFY WITH EDUCATION: You must have a successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related fields. OR SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to include (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; (2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: #1. Knowledge of firefighting and fire prevention theory and techniques. #2. Knowledge to operate and maintain firefighting equipment. #3. Skill in oral communication. #4. Skill in written communication. #5. Ability to work as a team member. Other Information: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) expenses are not authorized. Other Requirements: A medical examination is required. Immunization screening is required. Must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
