FDNY "Bail-Out" System

2 posts in this topic

Does anyone know the specifics on the new FDNY “Bail Out†Packs?

Where can you get them?

How many feet are they?

Is there anything attached?

The new systems is made up of a bunch of parts.

1. Updated Harness made by Gemtor. Works in two ways. First it works just like the old ones did, you release a snap and the harness hook comes into action. The second way it works is with another snap which keeps the harness hook out of the way but releases a D ring which is attached to the bailout rope. The normal hook you see on the harness is not used for bailout.

2. New Rope. Now made of kevlar, not sure who makes it. Also now 50' long.

3. Fish Hook. Now at the end of the rope is a fish hook looking device in place of a clip. This will allow you to anchor to the window sill as well as many other things.

4. Decent control device. Pre attached to rope and D-ring of Harness. When a load is applied it will lock and not descend. You then must use a little handle to control your descent.

5. Pouch that attaches to the harness to hold everything.

As far as purchasing them. I think you might have a problem at this time. Maybe after FDNY gives them out to everyone you might see them made available by the company.
