ALS Gear

6 posts in this topic

I am looking to propose a replacement for the current gear we use at a urban / rual transport capable ALS unit in NJ. Currently we are using some sort of tackle boxes, ive seen a few bags that would work wonders. I am looking for a little input as to how to configure them. How does your dept/comapny do it? Any pictures and such would do wonders. Thanks

One of the more common bags I see is the Pacific A300D. I can send you pictures of one configuration. Another service I work at carries IronDuck Sof boxes. I personally loath tackle style drux boxes. At the old Abbey or Sloper we used to have those. Nothing worse than dumping the box over in a moving rig and having half your meds shatter.

MICP2823, We use the Pacific A300D, it's a great bag, very durable, tough zippers, stretches well if you have to jam it with stuff. We also bought a plano 4700-00 box, it holds every medication we carry and fits perfectly in one of the side compartments of the bag. It is flat, so it won't fall over and it has two levels, which means that if it does fall over, only half the meds will fall out. The large center compartment of the bag holds the tube kit and IV start kit. There is a smaller bag velcroed to the top flap of the main compartment, we made this into an AMS kit, but if it were removed, you could fit a BVM in there. The other side compartment holds all sizes of shooters as well as extra dripsets and fluid with plenty of extra space. The small side pockets hold a sharps container on one side and a literbag w/ dripset in the other. In 7 years of EMS this is by far the best setup I have used.

WAS967, I agree with you about the old-style fishing boxes, I can still perfectly visualize...in slow-motion...the box flying straight up off the bench seat, flipping over, all of the drugs falling out in mid-air, and everything coming crashing down on the floor of the bus.
