Busiest Westchester Department?

36 posts in this topic

Not counting the bigger cities, what departments in Westchester do the most runs and # of working fires a year?

Excluding the Career Departments / Combo Departments, I'd have to say Somers is probably the busiest. As for most fires - who knows, depends on who is writing the reports I suppose....

As for paid/combo - Perhaps Mohegan and/or Port Chester. I'm not including EMS runs.

I have a hunch that Ossining runs the most structure related fires in the county as well as the most mutual aid to neighboring structure fires.

Call volume I have to agree that Somers probably runs the most, but if you remove EMS I think it probably goes back to Ossining on volume.

Just a hunch.

for just fire calls, yorktown runs alot, not sure if its number 1. If we ran ems too we would be number 1 or at least close to mohegan lol

Mohegan does a couple thousand fires runs...EMS outta control

Somers does bout a little below that

Port Chester does A lOT of fire runs

Yorktowns gotta be doing 600 + runs

Mount Kisco does a crap load of runs too

Peekskill does a decent amt. of runs and they do a decent amt. of fires per year

not sure bout everyone else

If you include the combo departments Eastchester did a little over 3,000 calls last year

Runs or fires?

If the criteria is just runs (the number of times the pager goes off), then the prior posts are probably correct.

I still think Ossining runs the most amount of actual fires both in and out of their box area.

I would have to say Ossining fire answers a lot of runs and they dont do ems and that they are 100% volunteer.

the original question said not counting the bigger cities, so yonkers is obviously not the answer they were looking for.

I would have to say its probaly between OSSSINING/PEEKSKILL/PORT CHESTER! FIRE wise not call wise even though they run a pretty substantiol amount of alarms. I personaly think mohegan gets the most runs overall. Also elmsford is up there with the big dogs they did on average i think about 800 calls last year.

kisco and Yorktown do prolly about 600+ each but Somers has to be doing at least a grand worth of fire runs

Another Factor I was thinking about is does it matter if the Department Runs EMS along W/Fire or just Fire?

i think there just looking for fire runs

Thats what I figured so with this you really are seperating Fire and EMS in Somers' case?

Is there really a diiference between a slow and busy dept, paid or career? What about dept's who can put out their own fires???

In 2004, Somers had 1504 calls, round about volume as follows:

Straight EMS- 875

Auto Accidents- 125 (Fire and EMS response)

Fire/Emergency- 500

So, if Somers didn't run Ambulances we would have had around 625 calls as a straight FD.

This year, Somers is on track to break 1700 calls, all 3 catergories are up!
