What do you think of Putnam 911?

3 posts in this topic

So on another forum like this one, the adminastrator asked what Putnam fire and E.M.S. responders think of Putnam 911. So i was wonderign what outside Putanm responders think of us here.

I figure outside responders would have an independent ear. So yep leave your responses from those who do get to hear us. Thanks

You're a better man than I am, Anthony, to ask such a question :)

One more day then back on the B-line (Thursday). Germany was kick-a$$! Wish I could have figured a legitmate way to stay.

More on topic ... I've gotta' say I just haven't been able to figure out Putnam County yet. Dutchess, where I've "worked" as a volunteer FF for 21 years, has pretty much always been pretty strongly supportive of the dispatchers at the County 911 Center (even going back to the old days of KED-348). I have no first-hand knowledge of Westchester County but the things I read in various forums seem more generally positive than negtive.

While recognizing that change is ALWAYS hard, I've still been surprised/amazed at the level of animosity which has been expressed toward us on a regular basis by some of the responders in Putnam County. Corny as it may sound, I truly view myself (and those I work with) as members of a team who work toward the common goal of helping people in need. That doesn't seem to be a "shared reality," based on what I read on-line.

I personally think we do a damn fine job at Putnam 911 (but will continue to strive for better on a personal level). I'm proud to work with a whole bunch of dispatchers who are committed to doing the best they can for people in need.

Thank God for the Juniper Berry ... Might be time for another Martini before bed! See you shortly.

Putnam 911 would be great if utilized properly. It's understaffed plain and simple. Only 2 dispatchers to handle the whole county maybe a third from 12pm-8pm but that's it? 60 Control has a min of 4 dispacthers on per shift. I'm not here to pick on any of the dispatchers (I know a couple of them). But I feel the Administrators are to blame for the problems of lack of training and not sticking up for the dispatcher. They Administrators bowed down to the fire depts that each want the dispatch done differently at different times of the day. 10 tones for a fire dispatch is a little excessive to me. Especially when it's an AFA. Where I am, 1 tone (a second if no one signs on within 3 min) and the trucks and or ambulance is out the door. To keep re-dispatching a dept for 1 call when other 911 calls are coming in seems crazy to me. But then again that's just my opinion on this subject.
