Tools test ideas

3 posts in this topic

the officers are trying to put together a tools test for the guys. we have a basic form from who knows when that is just a list of stuff you would commonly be called to get. (axe's, Scott packs, etc.). i want to kinda spice it up a bit and make the guys work. we did come up with the idea of having it done in teams. or maybe give a situation and have them get the tools and tell or show us how they work.

what does everyone else do in there houses? any ideas from outside the box?

Training our new members in my vol. dept in CT, we ask them to set up the tools just as they would be used at an incident, so for instance air tools would be getting the devices, scott bottle, and hooking them all up. Same for airbags, hurst equipment, and electrical appliance we carry on board for lighting ect... Its not just find this ok; good. It is find this set it up so you can USE it.

one thing you can do is to have them come up with a primary and secondary tool to do the job. EX: If your hurst equipment fails, how would you extricate someone from a car? By making them think outside of the box on how to do it in training will make it that much easer if it does fail on a real job.
