Temporary HQ's For Ardsley FD

4 posts in this topic

Got this from the Greenburgh Town Supervisor's updates. Does anyone from Ardsley FD know what kind of a temporary facility will be built on the site, and how it will be done??? Hopefully this will be the last step for them, and maybe the new firehouse wil begin construction in the spring......finally.

TEMPORARY HQ FOR ARDSLEY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT

Release Date: August 30, 2005

The Town of Greenburghwill be submitting paper work to the State Supreme Court next week to finalize ownership of the waterwheel property on 9A in Ardsley. The Village of Ardsley & Trustee Jay Leon have requested that the town of Greenburgh lease the property temporarily to the Ardsley Volunteer Fire Department. The fire department will be building a new headquarters in Ardsley and will not be able to use the current headquarters during the construction.  I think that this is a good suggestion and am pleased that the town can be helpful to the Volunteer Fire Department during their time of need.

After the Fire Department moves out of the waterwheel property the town and Ardsley will work together to build affordable housing on the property. One suggestion: We should consider building affordable housing that will be geared to volunteer fire fighters (similar to what Dobbs Ferry did a number of years ago). It’s getting difficult to attract young volunteers because housing is so expensive. Having affordable housing for volunteers will enable the town to attract and keep our volunteers-------------they save taxpayers millions a year.

On the follow up, just read the article about this in the Enterprise. It seems that there are several legal issues with the current and past property owners that may delay the FD using the land.

Ardsley is out of logical options for a temporary firehouse. We want thew westchester garage but it is not available as is the hillcrest shopping center. The current owner of the Water Wheel Property has some problems and can not lease us the property. We have asked the village to look into it and Trustee Leon has done a wonderful job in doing so. This is the only thing slowig us down now. Will update when it becomes available.

A member posed the question about building the new firehouse on the parking lot. There is no parking lot to build a firehouse. There is a parking issue now.
