FDNY-EMS? how do you get hired

I a new EMT i love to volunteer i've been do that for 2 yrs. ,but i would like to get a job doing something i love. Unfortunatey i have no Driver License( atlest not untill sept. 29). I went to the fdny Website and saw a number to call but that seems to easy. What i mean is. Is there anything else i should do besides call the Number.

Thats all you have to do is call..

Register with FDNY at (718) 999-2169/2179. When calling provide your EMT or Paramedic certification number, REMAC expiration date (Paramedics only), Driver's License, Name, Home address, and Home telephone number. DO NOT SEND RESUME OR LETTER - YOU MUST CALL. Your name will be placed into our applicant database and as vacancies occur candidates will be contacted to arrange for their physical agility test, medical, psychological & background investigation processing

So you would have to wait to after the 29th. You then go on a waiting list and you will be called when needed.

Just a note. I am sure FDNY will be hiring plenty of EMT's and Medics. They just added 7 ALS and 5 BLS tours. (St Marys closed) They also have to backfill all the people that go over to be FFs.

FDNY does not hire prediem.. They will hire provisional until you take the civil service test.

Whats on the physical agility test?

Don't remember off the top of my head. Should ask when you call, I think the hardest part of it was a stairmaster test.

From what i remember once you make your first phone call, call at least once a month after that, get them to know your name, it worked for me when i got hired, you do have to stay on top of it.

As a 17 year old who is really into ems and the medical field(hoping to be a nurse) im turning 18 in june and wanted to know if i could work for fdny ems.... and if so when iturn 18 what can i start doing now to be able to start working for fdny would really love to work in the city and i feel it would provide an unforgetable experience and valuable experience.... any information will help thanks

Basically what you want to do is visit FDNY website. www.nyc.gov/fdny from there you click on the jobs and employment section and then click on EMT. It will give you the salary, job description etc. Also it will have a telephone number to call. This is where you give your EMT number, Driver's License etc. Basically once you get to the website it will tell you everything that you have to do! Good Luck
