Description Of Incident: Over-turned truck

Writer: 242steve

City of Rye Engine 191 dispatched to report of over-turned truck under the Purchase Street train bridge. (This bridge has a posted height of 10'-10".)

En route, 60-control advised that as per PD, truck had propane tanks on board.

What we found at the scene was quite interesting.

There was a roll-off truck carrying a 15yd dumpster. Inside the dumpster was a forklift. This whole ensemble was resting on the passenger side on the sidewalk heading north towards Harrison/Rye Brook. The forklift's LP cylinder had been thrown clear of the truck. Also, the truck had sheared a fire hydrant off the sidewalk (no water leakage occurred).

No injuries to the driver or anyone else, no propane leakage (significant dent in the protective collar around the LP tank's valve).

Aquarion removed the hydrant from the scene.

United removed and righted the forklift first, which was removed from the scene on a flatbed. They were then able to right the entire roll-off truck with the container on board.

E191 stretched a 1-3/4" line while United was working due to large amounts of metal-on-metal and metal-on-concrete scraping and unknown fluid conditions under the truck.

Traffic all around Rye's commercial district was heavily affected.

Photos are being submitted after I post this.
