NYPD must publish patrol guide online to comply with new city law

The NYPD will have to post its full patrol guide online under legislation passed by the City Council Thursday.

The guide — which contains a slew of rules and procedures for cops to follow on everything from conducting a stop and frisk to handcuffing students at school or responding to a bicycle crash — will also have to be publicly updated within 24 hours whenever the department makes a change.

“There is no reason for secrecy,” said Councilman Dan Garodnick (D-Manhattan), who sponsored the measure. “New Yorkers will be able to know what to expect in interactions with officers and will be better equipped to speak out if a procedure is not followed. And for the officers themselves they will not be unfairly criticized for doing in many cases what they are taught and trained to do.”

All this is going to do is create "Sidewalk Supervisors" and make the officers job harder....not to mention the officer safety issues.

Nice to see a pro criminal city council take steps to make it easier to evade the police. Very often what the bad guy does not know can be a useful tool for the good guys, not that will no longer apply.

"We probably should just throw in the towel and give the streets to the criminals".

The cops don't have a chance out there. Maybe we should do away with the cops entirely and see how well we can all function together on our own.

If this keeps up, nobody in their right mind will even consider being a cop no matter what the pay or benefits are. Maybe we can just hire felons to monitor felons. Kind of like that saying; "the fox guarding the hen house".

I also must add this too. Of my younger friends, NONE, have any interest in becoming a police officer today. It's just not worth it. If that becomes a trend and that should happen, we may be left with no other choice BUT to eliminate our police.

With all of the changes made since DiBlasio took over it seems like the City does not want a police department any longer.

Maybe they should change the name from the NYPD to the NY Department of Social Workers and Problem Solvers.

What is next the City council providing money for vehicles  with couches so the NYCDoSWaPS (NYC Department of Social Workers and Problem Solvers)

can do mobile counseling when faced with confrontations.

What is next, before roll call all of the officers will be instructed to join hands and sing Kumbaya to set the tone of the shift. Rose colored glasses are optional.
