Just curious what box numbers mean what, I'm aware a box 6-6 is a general alarm but other then that I'm not sure.

Awesome to see this. A member asked a simple question out of pure curiosity and another member answered, in detail, with no BS.

I like seeing posts like this.

Also like that FDs still use box systems, but that's another story.

I see the Box 1-X and 2-X are location based.  Do the other boxes (in the 5, 7  and 8 range) also have specific locations?  To me it looks like the 7 range is for MVA's and rescue type calls (hence R14 being in them); but the 8 range is specific engines, would make me think that each engine is either responding to a specific area or carries some sort of special equipment.

MTD7, let me try to answer the previous question even though I have no knowledge of Ossinning.  From looking at the 1 & 2 series boxes, you can figure out the area of town where the engines are located. Example: E97 & E100 are in the south end; E96 & E99 are in the north end. So if you had an MVA in the southern part of the village, you'd probably here Box 7-2 OR Box 7-5 transmitted for the closest engine & the rescue. The 8 boxes are also geographic based on the information provided. So if you needed 1 engine for a trash can fire in the park in the north end of the village you would probably hear Box 8-1 OR Box 8-4 for either E96 or E99 to respond. How's that for an educated guess?
