NYS EMT's Now Allowed To Do 12 Lead EKG's

1 post in this topic

I've heard, as of April 111th, that NYS EMT's are now allowed to do 12 Leads, the purpose of which is to transmit to the hospital for rapid STEMI identification.

This is no different then an ER Tech doing 12 leads and giving it to a doctor, in a very basic sense though. However, this is assuming BLS providers do no have to acquire an ALS level monitor, and do not sit on scene to try and interpret the 12 lead. This would also require a hospitals base station cooperation, which if it was like the TV show "Emergency", would be awesome, but let's face it, most of them don't listen to our reports or care, and there are a lot of techs that's aren't proficient in giving reports. Factor that in with a doctor being available, and it can get tricky. I see this working for rural systems, but around here I don't see the benefit.

Does anyone have a copy of this new advisory?
