Utah Chief Killed in Rollover

Keith David Allred was killed instantly when the tanker he was driving suddenly blew three tires which caused the tanker to rollover.

The Fire Chief of West Desert Fire Department in Juab County, Utah was killed in a tanker roll over June 21.

Casey Reynolds, Juab County fire warden/fire marshal, said Chief David Allred was driving one of two trucks, a federal excess property Army Deuce-and-a-half tanker to a safety inspection. Driving on a dirt road, the left front tire blew out which pulled him to the side of the road. Two rear tires blew causing the tanker to roll. The truck following Allred came upon the scene. Allred had been killed instantly.

The Juab County Fire District is made up of a number of volunteer departments which were consolidated in 2000 and are now paid on call. Casey said that Allred had been the instigator in getting the West Desert department together after a structure fire claimed the life of a child about 10 years ago. He saw the need in the remote area for a fire station and worked with the state to get it together.

Juab County covers a large expanse in Utah. The incident location is in the center of the state near the Nevada state line.

Keith is survived by the loves of his life, Kathy and Bec, his 12 children, six grandchildren, his mother Elsie, his brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005, 11 a.m. at the Rocky Ridge Chapel, 151 N. East Ridge Road, Mona, UT. Friends and Family may call Friday, June 24, at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. So. Jordan Parkway (10600 So.), South Jordan, UT from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be at Riverton City Cemetery.

RIP, Chief Allred, always a very sad and tragic event. My prayers are with his wife, his 12 children, extended family and the UTAH firefighting community.

You maybe 2,000 miles away but we are all one family, in good times and bad.
