MOUNT PLEASANT - Two town police officers were in stable condition after they were hit by a car on Route 117 early Saturday.

According to an article published today on LoHud.com,

The driver refused to get out of the vehicle, Oliva said, so McGuinn opened the driver's side door as Oliveri also approached.

At that point, the driver "restarted the vehicle, shifted into reverse and floored the accelerator," the chief said. Both officers were knocked down and dragged, with McGuinn pinned under the door and dragged for 50 feet. They were hospitalized with what Oliva said were serious injuries

Dragged 50 feet but thanks to Mt. Pleasant's past experience with an officer being hit by a car and the current climate toward law enforcement, they didn't respond to this use of deadly force with deadly force.
