Another casualty of cold: Westchester Fire hydrants

Several generations of snow and ice piling up and weeks of cold are causing problems with fire hydrants in the region.

Malfunctioning hydrants have slowed firefighters' efforts during recent blazes in Yonkers and Mount Vernon. And thousands of hydrants in Rockland, Westchester and Putnam remain partially buried or covered entirely by snow.
