My thoughts and prayers for all of the MOS and LEOs that have to deal with the uncalled for but mostly planned violent anarchy and chaos, and hope most of them make it through unscathed, but unfortunately from listening to the dispatches that doesn't seem likely unless they withdraw completely, which we all know they cannot for the people caught in-between's sake. My heart goes out to all the responders in this no-win situation.

Alex and BFD389RET - thank you for the updates. We all have to be alert, because it will spread before it dissipates, and we all could be caught in the repercussions caused by the actions of these mobs if others get the idea they can get away with it "in support" - like they really care what happened in Ferguson. But they will use it as an excuse, and some areas are not used to handling this kind of violence aimed towards them.

Stay safe everyone, and keep your eyes and ears open.

This is nuts it seems like the cops were showing far to much restraint.

This is nuts it seems like the cops were showing far to much restraint.

What most people do not realize is that in situations like this, it is not the Police that are actually calling the shots.

That is done by the elected politicians.

If it was left up to the Police, the ending would would be different.

What exactly can the national guard do to control the rioting?

What exactly can the national guard do to control the rioting?

Or you can check out KENT State University Ohio Nation Guard was activated when 500 KS students protested a Vietnam war era set of issues 4 College kids were Killed and numerous others Injured... National guard Kids the same age for the most part as the protesters ,, why was the NG called in at all? it had been peaceful Until Rifles with Fixed bayonnets became an issue .... Doesnt make it right ....this was 2 years after MLK and Robert Kennedy's Assasinations and riots in most inner city areas you can think of... Just saying somtimes people on either side can get stupid .....

Wow. My question was actually a serious one, wondering what "police" authority the national guard has. Clearly I should have phrased it better. My fault.

YOU need to relax and not worry when I was born. I am aware of what happened at Kent State.

well, Then that was one serious answer to your question then wasnt it, Not saying It should have happened Not saying It couldnt happen again,,, It wasnt an "Attack On you" but given That was A Time when I was a Kid not even Thinking of college, I really dont expect Too Many others Here were either... It wasnt my intent to get you to get your Support hose tangled.... Believe me....

Kent State was 44 years ago. You can't seriously compare it to today; everything's different.

Police training, National guard training, policies & procedures, state laws, media, etc. have all changed during the past 40 years.

San Francisco last night was a borderline-riot situation. A group of about 200 attempted to march to the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. When they were stopped by police, they decided to break windows and march halfway across the city. Next step was to attempt to block the freeways, but CHP and SFPD didn't let them anywhere near those. They ended up breaking windows at several businesses, looting a radio shack, setting fire to a news van, and assaulting several Police Officers. Approximately 75 total arrests.
