New York State Thruway Authority Adds Western Star Chasis

The Western Star vocational truck chasis is becoming very popular in New York State as of late.

New York State Thruway, whose plow fleet is comprised mainly of International's, has added dozens of 2015 Western Star 4700's to their fleet this year, equipped with Viking-Cives plow mounts and hoists, and Smith Spreaders. They also come with a dump body for the spring and summer months, removable in order to mount the spreader.

Any ideas what the black box is mounted to the top vertical (front) for the wing blade? Some kind of SONAR?

It is probobly a remotly controled spotlight, with a cover on it for the off season.

It look like a Larsen Golight. If it is, most of their models come with a removable cover plate. It would make sense that the first pic might still have the plate in place, even though it might be later removed and tossed aside. It's not really a hood, just a plate that snaps in place over the lens.
