Is Yonkers using that Excursion as their M.S.U. on a permanent basis as opposed to their ALF air cascade unit, or is it just temporary?

It's a second piece assigned to MSU. (Ex-Safety Battalion rig). The bigger truck still responds to the jobs.

Is the second rig assigned to just carry spare cylinders?

whats the Con Ed Wrangler used for?

Fun

Haha I like Barry's answer.

Not sure where Seth took this picture? However, Con Edison has a Transmission Line crew that operate out of the Westchester Industrial Complex in Buchanan. They are assigned several Jeep Wranglers and other 4x4 vehicles as much of their work involves off road driving.

My father retired in 2007 after 44 years of service with Con Edison, spending many of his last years with this crew.

It's probably used for line inspections and a lot of lines are very not drive-able. I know NiMo has a bunch of UTVs and ATVs and currently there is a helicopter up here for inspections.

That's exactly where I took the photo. Con Ed has a variety of off-road vehicles stationed there. Here's two of many:

That's a good question. I've never seen a MNRR Vac truck before. I don't know if that particular unit and it's operators are on an emergency call list like Con Ed's are, but hopefully someone on here does. I know Con Ed's vac trucks are. That truck seems to look, at least, much more powerful and can travel and access areas via rail as well.

Many Public Works Departments have a leaf vac truck and many of them are on the response list. I believe Rye used their Public Work's Leaf Vac Truck at their Trench Collapse they had last summer.

Leaf vac trucks and sewer vac trucks are two separate things. Leaf vac trucks create an airflow to pick up leaves. Sewer vac trucks create a powerful suction to remove mud and other debris from sewers and catch basiins, and that suction is powerful enough to pull from below grade into the tank.

It is very dangerous to use a "standard" vac truck to rescue a trapped worker.

When we use Con Ed's trucks we have extension tubing (which also gets the vehicles noise, weight and vibration away from the trench) but of great importance it has a safety break. Without one you should never be in the trench with one...very dangerous to the victim and rescuers..

In the Rye incident, we used both Rye's and ConEd's. Rye's was on scene well ahead of all mutual aid. Was way to close to the trench and luckily it did not cause the trench to collapse.

Also Con Ed sends at least 2 trucks, because once filled its out of service till it can be dumped and depending on location this may take some time. By using the extensions the truck can be released easily to go dump. Rye's truck was pinned in, so if it needed to dump it would not be able to.

Aarfe those extensions universal so they can be put on any vac truck (assuming the right type of vac truck)? Also are they property of the FD or of Con Ed?
