Digital Camera Buyers Guide

I recently made up these reccomendations for digital cameras for a friend who was looking into buying one, and I figured I would share with you guys.

Here are a couple of good digital cameras. When purchasing a camera, make sure to buy a larger memory card (256mb or larger), a great quality protective case, and an extra rechargeable battery

 

No matter which camera you buy, make sure it is 4megapixel or above. And I recommend going to Best Buy and playing with the camera your seriously considering before purchasing it,if time allows, just to make sure you are completly happy with the frame.

This is the camera i use, its very very small though (Which I like,because its so portable, it fits in nicely in my pocket...no bigger than a pack of cigarettes but Im not sure if ultrasmall would work for you) Its very easy to learn and use,easy to carry around all day,  and this is the one I personally use for EMTBravo.com......Available at BestBuy,Amazon...etc

Here's a budget, starter camera. Very good features at a great price....takes some pretty nice photos...bought it for my sister and she loves it...except for the no zoom

I personally use this one. It's easy to use and take high quality pictures. My only recomendation would be to get a larger memory card. The OEM is only 32 MB. By jumping up to a 256MB you can get 99 pictures on the card at the highest resolution.

I would definately shop around regardless of what you get. On the Canon S50 I saved about $100 by going to the city as opposed to one of the "big box" stores.

I'm currently operate 2 digital cameras, a 4.0 MP Kodak & a 5.0 HP both are excellent cameras. I have found that the kodaks are easy to use, light weight, take great shots and easy to upload to your CPU. The HP is a little bit more for the person who knows what heshe is doing. It has all types of controls for appature, white balance, nightday shots, wide angle, F#, P# controls & a 56X zoom which is swwweeettt!!

If you are new to digital cameras i'd say go & look at the kodaks. They are pretty cheep and a good way to get in. The HP is a little more expensive but in turn gives you more control.....

If you dont mind spending the money Digital SLR's are a good way to go. I use a Nikon D100 which takes all Nikon AF lenses.The advantage of these cameras is no lag when taking a picture which is important if you are trying to get an action shot and the ablility to change lenses. Be sure to try out a camera before you buy one. Canon has just come out with a Digital SLR for about $899 Digital EOS . If you use a Canon film camera (new style AF) you may want to look at this camera since it takes the same lenses.

I'm looking to purchase a Digital SLR once I get back to work after school is done......I am looking to a Nikon or Canon since my current cameras are those and I'm pretty happy with them.

Any ideas on how to get the best price?

I also will probaly end up taking a basic photography class, so I can use the features on the camera better. Right now, all I know is how to aim and click the button only, and edit photos. I think their is a big difference between point-and-shoot photos/camera and photograpy, and hopefully I will be able to start taking better pictures with this camera and class, and improve my skills. After all, what good's a $1,400 camera if you're only can use one feature?

Make sure you buy a USA market camera not gray market (does not have USA warranty). That said there are several places that sell the cameras for a good price. Shutterbug Mag. has a good listing of camera shops. www.ritzcamera.com has good prices and offers free shipping. As for which camera to buy both the Nikon and Canon are great cameras. I went with the Nikon since I already had a Nikon film camera. Try them both out if you can, any good photo store should have them in stock. http://www.camerawholesalers.com in Conn. is a great place to look at cameras. They have a good inventory of photo goods and are very knowledgable about photography.
