Teen busted for drunk driving after leaving a private reception in Rye  

 

 

(02/11/04) RYE - A teen who attended a private reception at a Rye firehouse has been charged with DWI.  

The reception took place at the Milton Firehouse in Rye following a funeral for a longtime volunteer firefighter. After leaving the reception the teen got into an accident on Parsons Road and police were called to the scene. Police say the teen failed a series of sobriety tests. No one was hurt in the accident.  

Paul Shew, the city manager of Rye, says the city is not responsible for what happened. He says it was a private event that had nothing to do with the Rye Fire Department.  

City of Rye officials say they are now looking into its policy of lending out city property for events where liquor is served.  

The teen is due back in court.
