FDNY Doubtful Will Hold

9 posts in this topic

Someone told me FDNY is no longer using the terms "Doubtful Will Hold" and "Probably Will Hold". If so, what terminology are they replacing it with, and why the change?

Still using them. Last job i went to probably will hold was used I would ask your source where they got the info from. If it's someone credable like m'ave said they are certainly not letting us know in the field

I believe the correct terminology is "the fire (or incident) is 'doubtful'" after the first full incident size-up. After that, the fire or incident is considered doubtful until the IC places the fire or incident "probably will hold".

Every time the IC gives a progress report, they give a condition of the incident. "Doubtful will hold" is given if it is doubtful that the incident will be mitigated with the units on scene. "Probable will hold" means that units are making progress and this state precedes "under control".

They will still be using the same terms but in codes.

10-88 CONTROL OF FIRE OR EMERGENCY

CODE 1 - Doubtful will hold

CODE 2 - Probably will hold

CODE 3 - Will Hold

CODE 4 - Under Control

Where did you hear this? No one in the firehouse has heard this. That said.....old habits die hard and I think you'll hear this one in plain English for a long time/forever.

Okay.....the concrete info:

The 10-code is a Starfire code, but only for the dispatcher to input. There will be no change in how the Battalion/Division Aide reports control of the incident.
