The Houston Fire Department is mourning the loss of another veteran firefighter, who collapsed and died Wednesday after battling a fire in a vacant home in Kingwood.

Daniel Groover, 46, a 21-year veteran of the Houston Fire Department, was the fifth firefighter to die in the line of duty in the last 13 months, bringing more grief to the department. He apparently collapsed while in the empty two-story house and never recovered, said Fire Chief Terry Garrison.

Our prayers and thoughts and sympathies to the family of Daniel Groover, his family and the young children left behind, and his Houston Fire Department family. 46 is way way too young - there was so much more he had to offer, and this is starting to happen to younger firefighters. What a shame and a tragic loss. Rest in Peace.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Daniel Groover. May he rest in Peace and God brings comfort to all whom suffer through this tragic period of their lives.. 5 LODD in 13 months is very terrible news. The question now with everyone bringing up health and fitness is... Do they have yearly medicals and some type of fitness program for Houston Firefighters??
