Yonkers FD - Former Warburton Ave Station?

11 posts in this topic

Could have been from the volunteer days. There were 14 volunteer companies in Yonkers by the 1890s.

The only paid house ever on Warburton Ave., to my knowledge, was and is the current quarters of Engine 308, when they moved to 539 Warburton Ave. in 1933 from Woodworth Ave. were there were organized in 1907.

Actually the first house E308 responded from as a paid department came from an old city carriage house , located just north of the current house...it is actually still standing in the parking lot of school 25..we had plans on making it the yonkers fire museum,

but it was structurally too far gone...current quarters was built in 1980...our newest house....

This is YFD Station 8, late 50's and early 60's. Eng 8's rig was later used as Rescue 1 between the old 1937 American LaFrance and early 60's Mack.

Awesome photos! Big house to have only one bay door. What was the interior like? Anyone ever been inside?

I used to visit my dad when he was assigned. there. I remember that if you walked in the apparatus door, to the left (the west side of the building) was the day room. On the right side (east) you went up a few steps and there was the company office. I used to play on that Ward LaFrance shown in the black and white photo above.

Great shot of Engine 8's 1961 Ward LaFrance Fire Brand Pumper at the Old Station 8 (too bad that the building was too far gone, to continue the plan to house the YFD Muesum). Also nice shot of that "Vintage" American LaFrance Pumper at the "ORIGINAL" Station 8.

KEEP THOSE CLASSIC YFD SHOTS COMING !!!
