More Alarms = More Ambulances?

6 posts in this topic

In Westchester County, when additional alarms are struck for a fire scene, it brings more manpower. Does it bring more ambulances as well?

In Mohegan, we upgraded our 1st, 2nd and 3rd alarm assignments last year. On the transmission of a working fire (1st alarm), for EMS scene coverage 1 ambulance and Peekskill VAC's rehab are automatic. Each additional alarm level adds 1 additional ambulance to the scene.

no but flycar medics have been calling for U88 to free up and have only one ambulance on scene for emergency transport. Its a good resource especially on en-climate days

On a working fire, there should always be at a minimum (2) ambulances; (1) to treat and (1) to transport.

Or more depending on the scope of the incident.

Now to expand the discussion, who makes the call for additional EMS resources? Once on-scene, does EMS assume a "command role" or manage the "Medical Group" (or "Branch" if it is really a big job)? Or does the fire chief - who may or may not have any EMS background - decide what the response will be?
