At least two firefighters are being treated by emergency medical personnel after becoming trapped in a roaring nine-alarm fire in a residence on Beacon Street in the Back Bay this afternoon, Boston EMS reports.

Firefighters were seen pulling a comrade from the building on a stretcher, and pumping on his chest while yelling for an ambulance. Others surrounded the stretcher, appearing to form a wall to shiled the injured firefighter from view

Boston Fire Department has confirmed the Line of Duty Deaths of Lieutenant Edward Walsh and Firefighter Michael Kennedy, both assigned to Engine Company 33 on Boylston Street.

Firefighter Mike R. Kennedy, 33 years old, of Ladder Co. 15 and Lieutenant Edward Walsh, Jr., 43 years old, of Engine Co. 33.

Lt. Ed Walsh had 9 1/2 years on the job and lived in West Roxbury with his wife and three kids: two boys and a girl all under 10 years old. He was the son of a Watertown, MA FD lieutenant. His uncle was also a lieutenant and his cousin Tom is a captain in Watertown FD.

Firefighter Mike Kennedy had 6 1/2 years on the job and lived in Hyde Park. He was single and a U.S.M.C. veteran. Firefighter Kennedy sat on the Board for the BFD Firefighter's Burn Foundation, which volunteers in helping burn patients.

Boston Fire Commissioner, Boston Police Commissioner and the Suffolk County District Attorney just held a press conference on the Cause and Origin of the fire at 298 Beacon Street. Welders operating at the rear of the building are believed to be the cause.
