Located in the Department of Emergency Services – Valhalla: Under the general supervision of the Director of Emergency Medical Services, an incumbent of this position located in the Department of Emergency Services, serves a technical expert in retrieving, tracking and compiling data records from the department’s Computer Aided Dispatch system and digital recording system. In addition, the incumbent provides supervision and training relating to phone and radio etiquette, based on industry standards, to Emergency Communication staff as well as participating municipalities. Responsibilities also include planning and supervising the work of Communication Operators; administering training and educational requirements; managing quality assurance issues; providing outreach to municipalities to ensure consistency in the application of policies and procedures; tracking system hardware, and keeping detailed records for management analysis and to facilitate and enhance system utilization. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate personnel. Does related work as required.

REQUIRED: Possession of a high school or equivalency diploma and five years of experience where the primary function of the position was as an emergency communications operator, one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

SUBSTITUTIONS: 30 credits* towards a Bachelor’s Degree may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four years of the required experience. Leadership experience in a paid or recognized volunteer police department, EMS agency, fire department or ambulance corps may also substituted for up to four years of the required experience. While both substitutions may be used in combination, there is no substitution for the one year of supervisory experience in an emergency communications center.

NOTE #1: Unless otherwise noted, only experience gained after attaining the minimum education level indicated in the minimum qualifications will be considered in evaluating experience.

NOTE #2: Experience gained as an active volunteer member of a police department, EMS agency, fire department or ambulance corps must be equivalent to a 35 hour a week, full-time position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of New York.

SALARY: $47,325 - Starting Salary / $58,865 - Maximum reached in four additional steps
