Advanced Difficult Airway

Course Description:

Pulse oximetry. Mallapalloti scale. Endotracheal intubations. Selick maneuvers. Supraglottic airways. End-tidal CO2. Waveform capnography. Airway management is an essential skill and a main clinical objective for any advanced life support provider. The challenge for the paramedic is to be prepared for a difficult airway presentation, including understanding the causes and having a wide spectrum of skills, techniques and tools available to manage it.

Join Lt. Guy Peifer, EMT-P, CIC/RF in this review of important pearls and pitfalls of handling a difficult airway, including tips on assessing the patient, understanding the tools and techniques available to help manage these presentations, as well as assuring that your efforts are not causing more harm than good.

This course may be applied toward Airway Management and Ventilation or General Elective CME hours for Paramedics under the NY State DOH EMS Continuing Education Recertification Program.
