Campbell Hall -- Former Orange County elections commissioner Burt C. Cortright died in a blaze at his home last night, authorities said.

Cortright was appointed Democratic elections commissioner in 1973 until the early 1990s and was a former Hamptonburgh town supervisor.

The blaze at 49 LaGrange Road was reported at about 10 p.m. Monday. The 1,728-square-foot house was destroyed in the fire. Firefighters worked through the night to extinguish the blaze.
