Bluffton Township Fire District is advertising a position for Fire Chief that closes on October 4, 2013. Bluffton is one of seven fire departments in Beaufort County, SC and is the largest district in the county covering roughly 247 square miles. Bluffton FD like every other department in Beaufort County, SC is 100% career.

Title: Fire District Chief - Bluffton Township

Salary: $80,000 to $102,000 DOQ

Bluffton Township Fire District Chief:Under the general supervision of the Bluffton Township Fire District Board of Directors and the Beaufort County Council, performs supervisory and administrative duties providing the Fire District with prevention and mitigation of emergencies and disasters through proper planning, public education and code enforcement. Responds to selected emergencies involving fire, medical, or environmental concerns.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ten(10) years of firefighting and emergency medical treatment experience with progressively increasing responsibilities, including four years of administrative experience
• Four years supervisory experience
• Bachelors degree in Fire Administration, Management, Engineering or closely related field
• Executive Fire Officer Certification or active pursuit of Certification
• Valid driver’s license
• Computer proficency

Knowledge of:

• Training and staff development in firefighting and medical emergency programs
• Governmental administration to include budget, personnel management and public administration
• Fire and medical skills including tactics, fire behavior, fire department inspection procedures, sprinkler systems, alarm and communication procedures, operation and maintenance of fire apparatus and equipment, safety procedures
