Not many details on cause of death, but the heat/humidity appears to have been a factor. My prayers go out to these five men and their families.

Four firefighters have died and five more were injured following a five-alarm fire at a southwest Houston motel and restaurant.

Firefighters with the Houston Fire Department arrived after 12 p.m. Friday to the Bhojan Vegetarian Restaurant and Southwest Inn on the Southwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 59) northbound frontage road near Hornwood Drive.

Texas sure has taken quite a hit with several multiple LODD fires this year. Dallas, Bryan, and Houston have all recently experienced this, as well as a number of single LODD's throughout the state, including another LODD in Houston in March. There were also numerous injuries at this fire as well, some critical. Thoughts and prayers.

Houston is the largest city in Texas, fourth largest city in the nation, and the third largest fire department in the US, covering over 2 milllion people over 654 square miles. Their FD is very busy and experienced.

Holy crap. I just realized I spent a day at Station 68 a couple of years ago, and even posted the photos. Same shift, too. Small world, very sad. Station 68 is one of the busiest in the city as well.

Rob Garner was the Probie at the time, and operating the BBQ.

Sucks to hear it. My cousin retired from HFD a few years back. I'm in Houston quite often and know a couple guys there. It's a sad day and a sign of many risks associated with the job. 3 experienced FF's and one rookie fresh out of the academy. Cause was from roof collapse. May they rest in peace. Heart goes out to the families and the fellow brothers.
