NYC new 911 system goes down twice in 2 days

7 posts in this topic

The most interesting part of the new system, now we (the units) can see the time the call originated with the UCT where before we only saw the time it entered the EMS system.

Over the last 16 hours, on average, there was a 4 minute delay between the UTC and the unit being assigned the job. Hint: all high priority jobs. Extra hint: EMD still doesn't pick up the transfer on quite a few and PD sends it out on their own.

On the PD side we switched to Icad dispatching, which replaced SPRINT. Absolutely horrible. Dispatchers are having tough time with it. Jobs getting dispatched only once, not being cleared in the system, resulting in several jobs being 'held' for 20 plus hours. Constantly being told to stand by while the dispatcher tries to figure it out.

Grumpy, 74 jobs in the system in some busy Bronx pcts still holding at the end of 4x according to guys in my old pct. Im in Manhattan now and guys were waiting for a bus for over an hour on some serious aided jobs. Make things worse housing changed the way they go over the radio. No longer by RMP number. Its causing a lot of confusion at times.

yeah lots of confusion. We were told to come over the radio as " Transit 12 Post 20". 2 nights ago was bad, you could hear other dispatchers screaming in the background as our dispatcher struggled to get things done. Almost 2 hours just to enter 3 districts roll calls into the system. Jobs were forgotten, or not even dispatched. Last night was a big improvement, My district handled a space case, with little to no problems from central. Our 4x12s had a few minor hiccups.

The article eludes to technical issues, but it sounds like there are many more. Is some of it training? "figuring things out" is not really something you want to hear from a surgeon, dentist or your 911 dispatcher.
