Apparently, they don't plow the Taconic northbound anymore. Maybe it was too crowded with bumper to bumper traffic moving at 10-20MPH to effieciently get in there and plow-but they could have gotten in there with a plow team. Or maybe they don't have enough manpower or sand/salt due to NYS budget cuts.

They can't plow with less than 2 inches. Yorktown had a structure fire earlier and had to avoid that. Croton had to come through the village of Ossining due to impassable road conditions. Roads were/are bad everywhere.

Wrong. Yorktown was first dispatched to an MVA SB in the area of rt 134. That call went unfounded, and as E270 was turning around on Fairhills Dr, the fire came in approx 5 houses down. The Taconic was used by all incoming Yorktown apparatus to access the scene.

Skywarn is active on the local Westchester amateur radio frequency (147.060 MHz) of the Westchester Emergency Communications Association. Hams are encouraged to report hazardous weather conditions. NOAA in Upton monitors - I was net control for the ARRL Southern District Net tonight. Non-hams may report to Skywarn by using this form:

I can see transformers popping off south of me, in the area of Cross County, now that winds are really picking up.

As stated above, do NOT repost NWS updates in this thread or the shoutbox. It is counterproductive as that information can be accessed readily by other means. This thread is for OUR discussion!

New 12z models now show that tomorrow's (Sat) storm will be stronger than previous models. With this new data it shows snowfall of 6-12" from NYC north into New England

Looks like most of the heavy snow is diminishing over NJ. Joe Rao's 2 pm update thinks maybe another inch or 2 before all is said and done.
