Agreed, as if there isn't enough to worry about any fire scene, now you have to worry whether or not you'll get shot? I wonder if during the investigation they'll discover this fire was arson.

From "The Secret List"...reposted with permission

All,

Numerous Firefighters have been shot in West Webster, New York (Monroe County, NY). Initial reports are that they were dispatched to a vehicle fire that was upgraded to a structure fire. Upon arrival, Firefighters were assaulted with several Firefighters shot and down. Radio reports indicate that they arrived and had a working fire and were assaulted. Multiple ambulances and ALS units were requested.

We will keep you advised-also WATCH THIS WEBSITE for details as well: http://mcfw.com/

Keep them in your prayers.

Very sad.....people just doing their jobs or volunteering their time and already doing something dangerous.

Hey, maybe the NRA will blame this on the media too and suggest armed guards at all fire scenes

Striaght from an inside (anonymous) source I have from back home:

West Webster was originally dispatched for a car fire. While on scene a car drove up and opened fire using a semi-automatic rifle. The suspect then fled into a nearby home, which then was set ablaze and spread to nearby homes.

The last I heard was that the suspect was still at large. Monroe County Sherriff Dept. deployed the SWAT armored truck to recover the injured firefighters from the scene, 2 of which were DOA.

An absolute tragedy for our brothers and sisters in West Webster this morning, and I extend my condolences to everyone affected back home.

Apparently one deceased was also a Police Lieutenant in Town. Very, very, very sad.

EDIT; The other FF killed was a Monroe County 911 Dispatcher as well.

I just learned the names myself...I have personally met Tomasz Kaczowka (deceased) and Joseph Hofsetter (injured). It is entirely too tragic that this took place, especially so close to my hometown and to people I have met and worked with in the past. Please continue sending your condolences to the families of the deceased. I can't bear to imagine what they are going through right now.

Two things about the audio;

First and foremost - excellent, PROFESSIONAL job by Dispatcher and Fireman 312...KUDOS.

Second, and one of the downfalls fo the information ages - is the fact that we are able to listen to this mere hours after the incident occurred. We get the names, pictures, and audio too fast....I hate to think over times, how many relatives learn of the death of a loved one via the internet.

I wholeheartedly agree...I know of a case here in San Diego County where a deputy had been shot and wounded and a TV station put out his name less than a half hour after the incident...the SDSO notification team had not notified his wife yet...

the vultures all want to be the first ones to announce "breaking news", and the families of the wounded/killed be damned...

Here's a USA today link. The LEO was part of the Greece P.D. and was off duty at the time. An article I read said he was hit by shrapnel. That said, I wish a speedy recovery to those ff's and officer and R.I.P. to the ff's who lost their lives today.

Thoughts go out to their families, communities and departments.

What's going on these days? This tragedy and a WI police officer found shot and killed near a firehouse in Wisconsin early this morning.

LET'S BE CAREFUL OUT THERE PEOPLE! That's not just a TV quote anymore!
