Oct. 1961 - Mt. Vernon NY Dock Street Photos

October 1961 Photos of Several Departments through out the County on Dock Street. Unknown if this was a drill or an actual incident. Notes on the back of the pictures clearly read " Mamaroneck , Fairview & Katonah" had apparatus in the City Of Mt. Vernon.

Any Information would be helpful , please share.

I dont think the rescue is a seagrave It looks like an international and the pumper looks like a 50 something oren

As what I been told years ago it was a mutual aide drill to the oil city facility in Mt. Vernon

That was a mutual aid drill in Mount Vernon for a supposed incident in the oil storage facility city area of the city. At the time MV was the third largest oil and gasoline storage area on the east coast.

The rig is Rescue 1, MVFD on an International.

Chief: Did the FDMV 1960's Mack C Rescue end up replacing this 1950's FDMV International Rescue rig?

Yes! The Mack replacement was a 63 or 64.

It was a REAL FIRE in the South End called "Oil City". Barges with oil came up Eastchester Creek to fill the HUGE tanks, seen in one of the last photos.

I thought it was later, but the pictures tell the story. We had help from all over, including FDNY. It was scary driving into "Oil City" at that young age. One of the times I thought I was CRAZY for doing this, for FREE!

The enclosed truck was Rescue 1, one of the first in the County,
