Off-Duty Dining

20 posts in this topic

Off-Duty Dining-this thread is for all the places we love to go but aren't really on-duty dining material. Whether due to location, cost or other factors, this is where we put the places that when we walk in we most likely:

1) Wear civilian clothing;

2) Either turn off or, *gasp*, leave at home our pagers/radios;

3) Don't tend to tell our war stories.

In other words, nice places for normal people. List those here!

Hudsons Ribs & Fish - Rt. 9, Fishkill

Great ribs, steaks & seafood!

Casa Rina of Thornwood - 886 Commerce St., Thornwood (near the Thornwood Diner).

Excellent Italian dishes. I recommend going with one of the "complete dinners." You get your choice of an appetizer, soup or salad, entree & dessert. Most "complete dinners" are around $20, depending on your entree selection.

Four Doors Down - 265 Tate Avenue, Buchanan

Main Street Steakhouse - 175 Main St., Ossining

Guida's Italian Restaurant - 199 Main St. (right off of South Highland Ave.), Ossining (914) 941-2662

Rhodes North Tavern - Rt. 17 North, Sloatsburg

http://www.rhodesnorth.com/

This place may not be that close, but definatley a great one! You can drive through 7 Lakes Drive, which is beautiful all year round, to get to Rt. 17.

Casa De Nicola - 441 Albany Post Rd., Croton

http://www.townlink.com/casadenicola/

Great Italian food & a nice atmosphere too.

Casa De Nicola - 441 Albany Post Rd., Croton

I've been meaning to go there since I've been hurting to find a GOOD italian place since Mirragio's seems to have gone downhill quality-wise. The Italian Place in the Cortlandt Town Center is decent, but it isn't what Mirragio's used to be. :cry:

I ran into the bartender the other day he told me to come in and try one. Isn't a burger a burger or do they do something special?

There's a dining room too! - Plus, I don't think that falls into "Where to go while on duty."

Hanada Hibachi on Route 6 in Mohegan-great hibachi table action with slightly high prices, but well worth it. As compared to Gasho in Hawthorne, it comes out way ahead-no screaming kids running between tables, great portions of decent food, and attentive service. The hibachi chef wasn't as showy as Gasho's manic chefs, but he did a flaming volcano on the grill with onion rings stacked on top of each other with a little grain alcohol in the middle-good thing Mohegan Fire is about ten seconds down the street. Cool trick, good food, reasonable price with good service.

How were your bowels afterwards? We went there and the food was good and price was decent, nice size plum wine for $3 but talk about gastronomic aftermath! Sheesh. They also screwed up our time but were at least willing to make food for the two of us so we didn't have to wait for a whole table. Go with a large group so you have people you know and not a bunch of nosey people gawking at your food wonder "what's THAT". ](*,)

Last month me and my whole group from 60 Control ventured down to Harlem.

What!!!! You say. 5 White Dispatchers and thier wife and or husbands in Harlem.

You bet. We set out to try some of the best ribs in the area at Dinosaur BBQ.

No radios, no pagers. Just cold beer and lip smacking ribs. It was a fun, much needed break.

YES! Dinosaur BBQ is excellent. They started out in Syracuse then open up a place in Rochester. The seem to like establishing near a major university. They're all of a few blocks from Columbia.

In a previous post, i mentioned Casa Di Nicola in Croton as an excellent off-duty restaurant.

Unfortunately, i have recently discovered that the restaurant has been sold and re-opened as a spanish restaurant. Just an FYI.
