Woodstock Fire Department failed to get competitive prices for purchases, state audit finds

A state Comptroller’s Office audit has found that Woodstock Fire District officials did not make and effort to get competitive prices on services and largely made major purchases without seeking requests for proposals.

The audit was released Oct. 5 and covers expenses involving all five fire companies covered by the district.

Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli and Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright have scheduled a 1 p.m. Friday press conference to discuss the audit and an accompanying investigation into Woodstock Fire Company No. 3.

The audit covered Jan. 1, 2011 to Jan. 26, 2012 and found that district officials did not follow policy in getting quotes for items that were not required to be competitively bid.
