Great Training for a Great Cause

Deputy Chief Anthony Avillo - North Hudson Regional Fire Rescue (NJ)

Battalion Chief John Salka - FDNY

Proceeds from these seminars to benefit to help Firefighter Rick Garrison, a 26 year veteran of the Wallingford, CT Fire Department battling cancer.

Two of the leading fire service authors and speakers together at one venue!

9:00 AM Chief Anthony Avillo will be presenting "Officer Development: Preparing for the Hard Environment." He will challenge officers and prospective officers in regard to their preparation, attitude, approach, operational and organizational skill both in the hard environment (on the fireground) and in the soft environment (the areas and time when you are preparing yourself and your subordinates for the fireground).

12:00 PM Lunch and Raffles including Fire Engineering Books and Videos, iPod and more!

1:00 PM Chief John Salka is presenting his popular "Fireground Responsibility." This program takes a serious look at several recent firefighter fatalities and the unique individual factors that contributed to the tragic outcome. It also discusses the actions we can take to prevent these events from re-occuring.

I'd highly recommend this training seminar if anyone can attend. So far we have people booked from as far away as PA coming out to support a Brother in need and for an awesome training opportunity.

Rick Garrison is a great guy. He's been sick for awhile and finally was cleared to come back to work a few months ago, just in time for his son to get hired by Wallingford FD, they were able to work the same shift a few times before Rick had to go back out on injury, when they discovered his condition is worsening. Its a terrible situation but Rick has always been a dedicated member of Wallingford's fire service, first as a volunteer and then as a career member. Unfortunately I'll have to miss out on this class, I have Instructor that day, but I will still be donating to support him!
