BATH — A New York State Police helicopter pilot who was assisting the search for a missing Hammondsport woman ended up needing help himself Friday after his chopper experienced difficulties, forcing him to make a crash landing in the Town of Bath.

State police officials identified the pilot as Trooper Thomas Shultz, 41, who is from the Rochester area and is based in Batavia. He was admitted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with injuries that were not life-threatening.
