Girl, 6, found clinging to body in Lake Gleneida

A 6-year-old girl clinging to the corpse of a drowned woman was rescued from Lake Gleneida on Monday by a small group of people in a rowboat, police said.

Authorities would not identify the drowned woman, but said her body was taken to Putnam Hospital Center, where an autopsy would be performed. The girl was taken to the same hospital as a precautionary measure. She was said to be uninjured.

Town police, along with volunteer ambulance and firefighters, arrived to the lake about 5 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from three people — two men and a woman — who had gone out on the lake to fish, said Carmel police Sgt. John Dearman

In a sad twist the little girl was in an MVA on I-684 the next morning as her mother drove her home from the hospital. The girl and her mother had minor injuries I believe, but it added to a very traumatic time for the girl.
