Fire vs. Police-Who Is In Charge? TRAINING INFO

Naturally, we have all been following the events effecting FDNY and the blind insistence by the Mayor and the Police Commissioner that "they" have control over hazmat jobs etc.

Naturally, hazmat includes spills or anything that COULD be hazardous.

So, in this below actual case study-even though, as reported by the police radio "a frick'n giant jelly donut fell from the sky...I ain't neva seen nuth'n like 'dis in my life, central" ....this DOES NOT appear to be terrorist related.

On the other hand.....lest we ask....is there a single member of FDNY's BRAVEST or any firefighter that would DARE to get between the cops and this horrific crime?

SO-RESPONDING FIREFIGHTERS: Use caution when arriving on a scene like this-PROTECT the scene and WATCH OUT for any indications of suspects which MAY include cops-in uniform or plain clothes-running from the area .......barefoot. As shocking as it may seem, the actual crime scene photo below shows clear evidence of this possibility. Also be sure to beware of SECONDARY DEVICES which can include the most dangerous device as it is totally UNpredictable and can turn on you in a split second, the INFAMOUS FRENCH CRULLER.

USE CAUTION-BE CAREFUL AND PLEASE FOLLOW THE BELOW GUIDELINES FOR DECON IF YOU BECOME EXPOSED TO THIS HAZARD.

Yours In Safety and Survival...

Determine the appropriate level of decontamination to be provided based upon the FLAVOR of the Jelly-or the specific type of custard, creme or sprinkles used. USE PROTECTION especially when sprinkles have been used or areas there are random "globs" of custard or creme.

Ensure that proper decon procedures are used by the Decon Team, including decon area set-up with coffee (light, extra sugar), decon methods and procedures, staffing, and protective clothing requirements such as bibs, napkins and pre-moistened towelettes....which are always convenient.

Coordinate decon operations with the PD's Entry Officer (identified by the blue uniform with the white powder on the front-NOTE-DO NOT BE ALARMED-the powder is probably TYPE A powdered sugar-but USE YOUR TEST KIT TO BE SURE) and other personnel within the Hazmat Branch.

Coordinate the transfer of decontaminated patients requiring sugar/caffeine overdose treatment and transportation with the HAZMAT Medical Group. Symptoms in this case are typically expanded uniform shirts (BE CAUTIOUS of poping/flying police uniform buttons as they may "take your eye out" -use your EZ-flip goggles on your helmet)

Not to get political, but...

Mayor Bloomberg has absolutely no idea what he is doing; furthermore, he has no concept of what it's like to be an "average Joe." The whole point behind the American political system is to elect someone who is grounded in the same field as those who elected him; that is, to elect someone who will have the interest of the citizens in mind. Mayor Bloomberg, sadly does not have the interest of the citizens of New York City in mind. He wants to spend a ton of money on a stadium that the city does not need, but cannot find the money to give cops, firefighters, and teachers - the lifeblood of the city - they pay they deserve. His "blind insistance," to which the above article alludes, is yet another in a long list of events which serve as evidence that Michael Bloomberg does the city a disservice everyday when he comes to work. The mere fact that he thinks that he will be re-elected on his own merits - putting aside the fact that his opponents probably couldn't manage themselves out of a paper bag let alone manage the city - is a slap in the face to the voters of the City of New York.

The newly christened Engine Company 168, which was discussed in another thread, wouldn't be in existence today had this year not been an election year. And now he wants to insist that for safety's sake, the police be in charge of a haz-mat situation. This has added more fuel to the already hot fire that is the turf-war between the NYPD and FDNY, and honestly, just does not make any sense. No offense to any Police Officers here, but they are not Fire Fighters. What can they do in a haz-mat situation? If there is a fire involved, they cannot do anything until the fire is out, so what is the point? Only one-tenth of one percent of all the 2004 haz-mat calls in NYC required police intervention and subsequent investigation - that is roughly 25 calls out of 25,000. Call me crazy, but this does not make any sense. Again, no offense to anyone here, but I think cops should be cops and fire fighters should be fire fighters; let the cops do the cop stuff and let the fire fighters put out the fire, regardless of whether it's a haz-mat or not.

...Rant off...
